Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The world faces climate change, energy shortages, and environmental degradation. The energy transition under the "carbon neutrality" goal will be a comprehensive transformation that covers economic, social, and environmental aspects. Among them, regional integrated energy systems can achieve optimized scheduling and control, and precise operation management of various energy sources through the integrated optimization of multiple energy types and equipment. Besides, smart energy technology is necessary to facilitate efficient and orderly regional integrated energy systems management. At the same time, heat pump technology is an efficient energy conversion equipment for electricity-heating integrated energy systems. It is a crucial technology pathway for zero carbon emissions in heating systems. Thermal storage technology addresses the mismatch of heat in time and space and can enhance the integration of renewable energy and the flexibility of the power system. This field has gained widespread attention from academia and industry, but research on smart regional integrated energy systems that consider heat pumps and thermal storage is still relatively limited.

This special issue calls for submissions on the following topics, but not limited to:

1. Optimization planning and operation of regional integrated energy systems based on heat pumps and thermal storage.

2. Zero-carbon integrated energy systems based on heat pumps and thermal storage technology.

3. Advanced heat pump and thermal storage technologies.

4. Large-scale thermal storage, seasonal thermal storage, efficient waste heat utilization, and regional integrated energy systems.

5. Techno-economic analysis of regional integrated energy systems integrating heat pumps, thermal storage, etc.

6. Sensing, communication, simulation, and control technology, and system architecture for smart energy systems.

7. Application of artificial intelligence algorithms in modeling, analysis, and operational optimization of regional integrated energy systems incorporating heat pumps, thermal storage, and related equipment.
